Xteq Systems

Xteq Systems is a team of ordinary people dedicated to create, develop, improve, test and promote software, add-ons, tips and fixes, with the main goal of Do More Faster!

Their flagship product, Xteq X-Setup, is constantly updated and delivers unreachable system tuning power to nearly a million desktops worldwide - at an also unreachable price: it's free.

I give 5 out of 5 asterisks to Xteq for giving free software, support, and making an excellent program.

BigFix

The BigFix family of products finds bugs, holes and other network vulnerabilities and fixes them in record time, automatically.

By fixing vulnerabilities before they turn into problems, BigFix applications make the computing assets of anyone more reliable, available and efficient. BigFix products are built on the powerful BigFix platform to help keep computers strong, secure and healthy.

I give BigFix 4 out of 5 asterisks, because even though their program is great, their website is not very personal, It's totally geared toward the Enterprise, not the individuals.

Simtel.Net

Welcome to Simtel.Net - A worldwide distribution network for Shareware, Freeware, and Public Domain software. This place has 2 great things going for it, first, it has the only newsletter I have ever actually read. And 2, they have an amazing selection of files. Their upload rate for files a week is anywhere from the 100's to the 300's.

If youre looking for a specific file for anything under the sun, they have it. I am glad to see this website is doing well, they are filling a hole left by the fall of another great software site, Stroud's Winapps. If you are always looking for the next best thing in software, look no further, they are great, and for those of you who dont mind newsletters, I suggest you signup.

For being honest, goodhearted, and looking out for their patrons, I give them a 5 out of 5 asterisks

The Mud Connector

Let's start by explaining what a mud is. As stated at mud connector, "MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon, Or Multi-User Dimension." This game was first made back in the late 70's. Using a technology designed to be the webs first "web page", telnet allowed customers to contact companies and get files and information.

After some college students got a hold of the program and made the first online role playing game with the software, the idea grew. There are no graphics, so if you must have "visuals" these games are not for you. However, if you like a good adventure story, you might come to like, and even love them.

A mud is like a choose youre own adventure book, but with thousands of directions the story can go, instead of just several.

Because this sight really is the only one of it's kind, I give it 5 out of 5 asterisks.

Free OS

If you need a operating system and don't want to pay the mega bucks, or you just like to tinker with linux kernels, this is the site for you. Considering that most "os's" are atleast a 100 dollars, this website could save you a bundle.

This website offers help with installing the os's, and also has a huge community system built for sharing information. I tried out the services they offered and installed one of their os's, called beos.

I give this site 5 out of 5 asterisks.

Free CD Software

They say it best about themselves: "At Free-CDSoftware.com we bring you a large selection of high quality software products on CD-ROM at the lowest price available, just shipping and delivery! There are no gimmicks and no subscriptions. This is NOT shareware or freeware, the free software listed here is complete, full version product."

They have a great selection. Their prices are, well, cheap. The only thing I dont like about them, which occurs to every "buy out" wherehouser, and thats that they dont get product until someone closes out. Meaning it may be a while before you see more new titles offered.

I give this website a 4.5 out of 5 asterisks

Synthetic Reality

You just have to love a software company with the motto "no check is too small". The first thing you see is the logo along with the trademark saying "It's Reality, not Realty". They offer several free online games for playing with your pals, and they are pretty good about not begging for money too often [usually every 25 hours].

I have tried a couple of their games, if your looking for great fun, and don't mind if a game doesn't have great 3D graphics, this is the place for you.

I give this site 4 out of 5 asterisks.
