This is an AR-8505. It's a general
coverage superhetrodyne receiver that
was manufactured around 1940 for shipboard use.
Receives 540-30,000 KHz, IF 456KHz
110V AC-DC, 40W
Balanced antenna input
Both high and low impedance audio outputs
6K8 mixer-oscillator
(2) 6L7 first and second IF amplifiers
6SQ7 detector, first audio, AVC
25L6G audio output
6J7 BFO
25Z5 rectifier
This is a fair general coverage
receiver. It's about 4Khz wide at -3dB and the
sensitivity is ok. Works best with a balanced antenna input. Frequency
stability
is good once it warms up.
CAUTION! One
side of the AC/DC line input is connected to the chassis. Use
a polarized plug and be sure that the chassis is connected to the neutral
side of the line.
The knobs are a light sky-blue gray,
but they photographed dark under the flash.
I think the stamped, nickle-plated, front panel is unusual looking! Click
