Character Descriptions
Scrooge

An old miser, unhappy, greedy, cantankerous. A classic Christmas character, Scrooge has become a stereotype of the kind of person who hates Christmas…and people in general.

BOY SCROOGE…YOUNG SCROOGE…OLDER SCROOGE
3 different ages of Scrooge.

Marley
A ghost. Formerly Scrooge’s partner, Marley has died and is forced to wear chains he has forged in life for all his unkind deeds. He comes to warn Scrooge of the chains awaiting him if he does not repent. Ghostly, ghastly, larger than life and spooky.
Bob Cratchit

A relatively young man in Scrooge’s employ who has a large loving family and is quite poor. Cratchit is the antithesis of Scrooge. Father of Tiny Tim and many more.

Tiny Tim

A very sickly, very slight boy with a brace and a crutch…but with an indomitable spirit. Loving and sweet.

Nephew

Only son of Scrooge’s beloved dead sister Fan. Cheerful and kind, he looks out for Scrooge, but cannot make any headway with Ebeneezer.

Orphan Boy
A very young boy who can sing sweetly.
Mrs. Cratchit

Bob’s wife, not as apt to be forgiving of Scrooge as her husband…she is loving and sweet to her children and husband.

Niece

Nephew’s wife. Fun loving, warm. Ready to ridicule Scrooge for his stinginess.

Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future

Three Ghosts who visit Scrooge to teach him lessons about his life. Could be played by men or women with the exception possibly of Present who should be a jolly large man.

Belle

Woman that Scrooge wanted to marry until she realizes that he loves money more than her. Lovely, kind and sweet.

Mr. & Mrs. Fezziwig

Young Scrooge’s employer and his wife. Very jolly and pranksterish. They overflow with the spirit of Christmas. They have 3 daughters with speaking roles.

The Cratchit Children

Peter, Belinda, Gillian, Miranda, Martha & Tiny Tim

There are many more characters in this play…all very Dickensian and great fun to play.
