Crusader States

Queen Ava, Diplomat and Wizard

Queen Ava

A.C. 2809 - 2810
With the death of my father I am left with the task of making order from chaos. Unfortunately my mother may not be happy with me. My brother Gauter has not yet reached the age of adulthood so I grab the reigns of power.

The guards watch the rest of the family ensuring their protection while calm returns to the States. The good bishop of Pontezium is kind enough to crown me Queen.

A.C. 2811 - 2815
My two younger brothers who at times are inseparable I name Heir and Prince accordingly. Candos smiles briefly, looks up from his book and says something about a wise choice. Gauter grunts and stands up proclaiming it is about time.

Many of the lands are released to follow their own rule. Woodlands and scarcely populated areas are still under our protection but granted autonomy. Maenadia is turned over to the Whisper Wood.

Further the Ianthan refugees are allowed to settle in Regaldros and Laedrus.

A.C. 2816 - 2820
The Company of Wanderers, a band of misfits assembled to find out what they may returns in triumph with ancient magical texts and other items of interest. Our father may not have though he had a single thread of magic in him, but the talent lay deep in our family. I’ve skills as well as Candos trained by Maradoc, chief Wizard of the Realm.

On the banks of the Llyran Sea I’ve ordered the construction of a new port city. Mocarre may not yet be ideal, but its value as a strategic trading outpost cannot be questioned.

A.C. 2821 - 2825
Our neighbor to the north is sorely pressed by Orcs. My brothers shall have to answer the call to arms and answer the request for help. I give care of their transport to Lord Sheldon who now commands a sizable group of light keeled vessels for river travel.

Our little sister Rose marries Charles, Lord of the Salt Shore. He should make a fine addition the Crusader Court if ever there is room for him.

Princess Tertia, daughter of the Conorrian Emperor Constantikos III is waited on hand and foot by our staff until my brother arrives. Then the two are wed and there is a time of rejoicing in the capital. Ah, I wish it were me that were getting married but I think it shall not come to pass for my husband is the nation itself.

A.C. 2826 - 2830
My father had a way of stating things simply. Without food and a decent place to live the States will remain a small kingdom on the frontier. The massive undertakings he started continue onwards as I cast my eye on the Southern Akasia hills. Perhaps not as important as some other areas it is critical for the moment of troops, grain, trade, and any hopes of expansion along the Great Road.

Little information travels along the Lyodan River, but what comes is the stuff only the court bean counters are interested in. My brothers remain and they are growing restless.

A.C. 2831 - 2835
A stunning series of events has left a one time enemy defeated and their lands vacant. Ianthe was destroyed by the Airnim Horde of which I also wondered at our fate. To that end I had a mighty stronghold constructed within the confines of Pontezium in the event of an all out assault. The Acropolis rises above anything nearby commanding both Plain and River.

Raids sweep through the kingdom all the way to Querenia where unfortunately my pride did not think they would attack. Our Keeps and Outposts are plentiful yet they were not properly manned having been part of the Northern Army. We exact some revenge upon the attackers driving them off and killing all but those mounted on the swiftest of wargs. Still it pains me to see homesteads burnt and looted.

Stunning news comes from the Order that the Grand Master returns to Pontezium bringing with him a weapon of legendary prowess. The Order of the Dawn has been a good neighbor and we have had little to complain about. If anything they have prevented attacks to the magnificence that is my fathers dream. A fully cultivated Akasian Hills province. Hopefully my brother manning the frontier does not hear of this until it is well out of his reach.

A.C. 2836 - 2840
Oh whoa what have I done. These years bring a crippling pain to my heart just to pen much of anything down. The terracing of South Akasia completed, I ordered a wonderous Palace to be constructed. Raising future generations of rulers to keep the States together.

Tragedy strikes however as my eldest brother Gauter dies suddenly while trying to work some form of alliance with the neighboring lands of Maicutis. Our faithful Lord Yaral also suffers the same fate on nearly the same mission deeper into old Ianthe lands. Then perhaps the hardest hit is my brother Candos who loses not only his child, but his wife in the birthing process as well.

The people do not starve to death but they certainly go hungry as food shortages become frequent with the heavy snowfalls.

A.C. 2841 - 2844
Fortunately my brother in law Charles is a mighty man. Roger of Pomarche and Charles came to the aid of the Akasian Hills which had fallen under attack by the great wyrm Urugall. The creature was driven off with great cost in lives, but driven off none the less. Such loyalty and self sacrifice shall not go unnoticed. Bards will sing songs of that deed for many lives of men.

I shall head to South Akasia to see if they can be brought fully into harmony with the rest of the Crusader States.

-scrawled in different hand writing- ‘Our Queen died in peaceful sleep on a winters even night in 2844 in the South Akasia province. Her reign was indeed her husband as she said frequently and for that we should not forget her. The remaining offspring of Bleobaris, Candos shall be proclaimed Exarch on the morrow when these archives shall pass into his care’
