The
History of Unitel, Inc.
Unitel,
Inc. was formed in September 1992 when six employees of Superior
Communications purchased that company. Unitel's history, however,
dates back several years prior to that. Almost ten years earlier,
Com-Tel of Stevens Point, Wisconsin and Great Central Communications
of Wausau, Wisconsin merged to form one company. In the late 1980's,
Superior Communications purchased that company forming one regional
communications company serving all of Northeastern, Central, and
Northern Wisconsin. Unitel then purchased Superior Communications
in 1992. Toshiba recognizes Unitel as an authorized dealer since
1984, due to this history.
Unitel
has maintained offices in Appleton and Stevens Point, Wisconsin
from our inception. As an exclusive authorized dealer of Toshiba
Business Telephone and Voice Mail products, the employees of Unitel
have always had a thorough knowledge of the products that we sell
and service. The reputation and reliability of Toshiba products
has always been important for Unitel.
Since
the early days of Unitel, a few things have changed. The number
of owners has decreased from six to four when one of them retired
in November 1998 and a second retired in February 2001. The four
remaining owners, averaging approximately 20 years in the industry,
all remain very involved with the business.
In
1999, Unitel purchased a 3000 square foot office at 2400
West Leonard Street in Appleton. After extensive remodeling,
the Appleton office was moved to the new location in May 1999. Unitel's
office in Steven's Point is located at 2715
Post Road.
Unitel
soon recognized the need to carry a second product line to cover
a larger market. After extensive research, the Unitel Board of Directors
signed on as an authorized Panasonic Business Telephone System dealer
in February 2000. This decision soon proved to be a very positive
one for both Unitel and our customers. Experienced, trained sales
associates are able to design a business telephone system that best
meets the needs of each customer.
Unitel
has more than doubled the size of our staff since 1992 and has a
customer base approximately 1,500 strong. We have installed telephone
systems ranging in size from 4 to 400 phones. Many customers have
multiple locations and continue to choose Unitel to provide their
telecommunication solutions. Unitel has built customer loyalty by
our commitment to customer service and the quality products we provide.
Unitel employees receive ongoing training to keep them abreast of
the latest technological advances.
Unitel
has undergone some changes since it was formed in 1992, but one
thing remains the same Unitel's commitment to our customers.
